Research Associate - Analytical Biochemistry
Description

The Trait Analytical team at Calyxt is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to purify, characterize, and quantify target metabolites and proteins to help support our gene editing technology platform. The candidate will work to characterize product pipeline projects in various crop species. The ideal applicant should have experience in analytical chemistry and biochemistry techniques such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, and Western-blot. Strong communication skills are necessary for this position as they will be working in a team environment and closely with cross functional teams such as genome engineering, molecular biology, and plant transformation. The candidate will be involved in key collaborations to successfully move projects forward through discovery and product pipelines.

Responsibilities
  • Independently perform HPLC, GC, GC/MS, and NIR analysis from experimental design through data analysis
  • Perform protein isolation, characterization and purification from complex matrices utilizing classical methodologies that include affinity, SEC, HPLC, ion, and other Chromatography based methods
  • Perform SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISA assays, electrophoresis and follow complex assay protocols
  • Collaborate with regulatory experts to ensure that all generated data is captured, stored, and analyzed in Calyxt’s LIMS
  • Work hand-in-hand with cell biologists, greenhouse staff and molecular biologists to complete chemical analysis, facilitating advancement of projects through our product pipeline
  • Equipment/ instrumentation troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Manage external contracts
  • Maintain an organized and safe laboratory working environment
  • Accurately document all experimental procedures and results in a lab notebook and LIMS
  • Conduct experiments according to current standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Develop methods and write new SOPs
Qualifications
  • Master of Science or a bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in one of these disciplines: Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biology
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment to achieve project goals
  • Laboratory automation experience is a plus
