Research Associate in Molecular Biology
Description

Calyxt is seeking a highly motivated and result oriented research associate to join our plant genome editing team. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work in a team environment and interact with experts in genome engineering, molecular biology, and plant transformation with a mission of generating precise genome modifications in various crops. The individual will be involved in the design and execution of new experiments in consultation with his or her supervisor.  

Responsibilities

Independently perform Plasmid prep, PCR, colony PCR, gel electrophoresis, bacterial culture cultivation, bacterial transformation, and sample preparation for sequencing 

Be able to utilize molecular cloning techniques for plasmid design, construction, and validation independently 

Conduct experiments and develop methods according to standard operating procedures  

Accurately document all experimental procedures and results in a lab notebook 

Provide training and support to junior members of the team 

Prepare and autoclave laboratory reagents and glassware 

Maintain an organized and safe laboratory working environment 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in molecular biology or related science field 

Relevant work experience in an industrial or academic laboratory setting 

Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently 

Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment to achieve project goals 

Demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills including data analysis and recommendation of solutions during troubleshooting 

Solid organizational and time management skills to ensure successful and timely documentation and completion of projects 

 

Preferred qualifications: 

Experience in advanced molecular cloning techniques 

Experience in sample handling, preparation and data analysis  

Familiarity with Geneious, VectorNTI, ApE, Snapgene or similar software 

Familiarity with Microsoft Excel.
