Research Associate - Trait Genotyping
Description

Calyxt is seeking a highly motivated and result – oriented research associate to join our plant genome editing team. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work in a team environment and interact with experts in genome engineering, molecular biology, and plant transformation with a mission of generating precise genome modifications in various crops. The individual will be involved in the design and execution of new experiments in consultation with his or her supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Independently perform advanced molecular techniques such as DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and sample preparation for different sequencing methods.
  • Be able to utilize molecular cloning techniques for plasmid design, construction, and validation independently.
  • Conduct experiments and develop methods according to standard operating procedures.
  • Accurately document all experimental procedures and results in a lab notebook and LIMS.
  • Provide training and support to junior members of the team.
  • Prepare and autoclave laboratory reagents and glassware.
  • Maintain an organized and safe laboratory working environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology or related science field.
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience in an industrial laboratory setting.
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a LIMS.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment to achieve project goals.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills including data analysis and recommendation of solutions during troubleshooting.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills to ensure successful and timely documentation and completion of projects.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in high-throughput sample handling, preparation and data analysis.
  • Experience working with automated liquid handling machines and automated sample arraying machines (ex. BioMircoLab XL9)
  • Familiarity with Geneious, VectorNTI, ApE or similar software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel.
