Calyxt is seeking a highly motivated and result-oriented scientist to join our R&D organization. The individual will be responsible for developing, implementing and conducting HTP genotyping assays on Calyxt products during discovery and product development phases. The successful candidate will work in a team environment and interact with experts in molecular biology, gene editing, plant transformation and product commercialization. S/he will also have a unique opportunity to work with cross-functional teams as Calyxt gene edited products progress through the R&D pipeline, comply with regulatory requirements and are brought to commercialization.
• Develop analytical genotyping methods including standard operating procedures (SOPs) to characterize Calyxt edited lines • Evaluate and employ a variety of analytical platforms (i.e. qPCR, ddPCR, NGS, Sanger) • Implement automation solutions to optimize throughput • Implement high-throughput assays to inform gene edit and breeding selections • Influence and build out new and innovative genotyping platforms • Manage internal and external projects according to Calyxt’s needs • Prepare data packages, reports and presentations to communicate with stakeholders at various levels • Work cross-functionally to continuously improve analytical approaches and develop new methods as required • Develop and submit innovative ideas • Be proficient in LIMS work associated with platform experiments
• PhD (preferred) or MS in Biology, Genetics, Genomics or other related majors. • Minimum 2 years of industry experience in HTP genotyping analysis • Hands-on experience with a variety of analytical techniques such as: qPCR, ddPCR, trait marker assay development and next-generation sequencing • Solid organizational and time management skills to ensure successful and timely documentation and completion of projects • Ability to work flex hours (evenings and/or weekends) as needed • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment to achieve project goals • Ability to learn new programming languages for automated machines
